The Story-Driven Fishery
Welcome to Rybářství Mírov (Mírov Fish Farm). For over 20 years, we have been dedicated to a line of work that is truly unparalleled in the Czech Republic. Our specialty and lifelong passion is the Burbot (Lota lota) – a fascinating fish that had been slowly vanishing from our waters, but is now returning thanks to our patient efforts.
We are one of the few facilities in the country that manages the complete breeding cycle—from gentle artificial spawning and egg care to raising robust adult individuals.
The Burbot is the mysterious "knight of cold waters" and a total rarity. It is the only freshwater representative of the Gadiformes order (which includes, for example, Cod). In appearance, it resembles a sea creature; it has skin with tiny, deeply embedded scales and its signature single chin barbel, which serves as a sensory organ.
Catching a burbot in the wild is a lifelong dream for many anglers. Why is it so difficult?
Nocturnal Activity: The burbot is light-sensitive. It only comes to life after sunset, which is when it begins its hunt.
A Lover of Extremes: While other fish go dormant during the winter, the burbot is in peak condition. It is most active when the rivers are icy and the weather is at its most inhospitable.
A Hidden Lifestyle: It spends most of the day in deep shelters, tucked away under roots or within stone embankments.
Our Mission: Breeding for the Future and for You
Our work at Rybářství Mírov stands on two main pillars. The first is the protection of biodiversity. A significant portion of our stock is regularly supplied to the Czech Anglers Union, which releases them into local fishing grounds. Through this, we help sustain the population of this beautiful fish in Czech rivers for future generations.
